Sandy BarbourAn inside look at the evolution of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL)—what it is, what it was intended to be, what it is not, and why/how it’s so crucial to the success of today’s Power 5 intercollegiate athletics program. Amongst the topics covered will be how it is impacting student-athletes, programs, and institutions; the advent of collectives; possible federal intervention; the impact on gender equity and competitive balance; and where this all may be headed.

Instructor: Sandy Barbour served as Penn State’s vice president for intercollegiate athletics from July 2014 until her retirement in July 2022. Sandy enjoyed a successful 40-plus year career in college athletics, including as a student-athlete, coach, and administrator at seven different institutions (Wake Forest, UMass, Northwestern, Tulane, Notre Dame, California-Berkeley, and Penn State). Throughout her career, she has been involved in NCAA and Conference governance, including the history and evolution of NIL parameters for students and institutions.
