OLLI York members, along with 16 other Penn State York community members, participated in the 12th annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event sponsored by the YWCA of York.  The goal of the event is to raise awareness and funds to support the YWCA of York’s work to help survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking. All proceeds from the walk benefit YWCA York victim services.

This is the second year that OLLI York participated in this important community event. The 2021 Penn State York team once again surpassed its goal of raising $2,000 and finished as the fifth-place fundraising team overall with more than $2,500 raised! The walk took place on October 14 at PeoplesBank Park in downtown York, where community leaders, families, and businesses attended.

“This event is extremely powerful,” said Jen May, director of OLLI at Penn State York. “We walk with Penn State York professors, police officers, students, and advisers in support of, and in the midst of, survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking. As long as I am the director of OLLI, we will continue to participate in this community event!”
