Volunteer Opportunities and Committees
Baker’s Dozen
Make 1–2 dozen cookies, baked goods, or appetizer for an event.
Course Coordinator
Serve as a liaison for the instructor. Contact him/her a week before the course to check on AV needs, confirm course date, time, and location, etc. Training will be provided.
Curriculum Committee
The primary function of the Curriculum Committee is to secure a well-balanced selection of courses each semester that have academic merit and that appeal to the interests of OLLI members. Committee members accomplish this by identifying and soliciting qualified instructors, guiding and facilitating the submission of course proposals, ensuring complete proposals, determining a final schedule each semester, securing course coordinators, and reviewing the success of courses. The Curriculum Committee works to maintain a balanced roster of new and veteran instructors as well as new and repeat courses. This committee meets monthly.
Development Committee
The Development Committee works closely with the director of OLLI as well as the director of Development at Penn State York and Annual Giving at University Park. They assist with Give Local York (York County’s biggest day of giving), legacy giving, sponsorships, and fundraising events. This committee meets monthly.
Growth and Marketing Committee
The Growth and Marketing Committee works closely with the director of OLLI as well as the director of University Relations at Penn State York. They are charged with continually marketing OLLI. This committee develops and secures promotional materials and mementos. The Speakers’ Bureau is one aspect of this committee. This committee also assists other OLLI committees with marketing needs. This committee meets monthly.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee welcomes new members into OLLI by sharing OLLI policies, procedures, and history. The committee stays in contact with members for continuous quality improvement of OLLI. The Membership Committee is also charged with exploring volunteer opportunities for OLLI members and working with committees to meet their volunteer needs. This committee meets monthly.
Newsletter Contributor
Write articles of interest and/or interview OLLI members and volunteers for our weekly publication.
Photographer
Take pictures at OLLI courses and events and share with OLLI staff.
Social Committee
The Social Committee offers opportunities for socialization beyond courses offered at OLLI. Committee members assess the interests of OLLI members and plan social events accordingly. Examples include soup and board game afternoon, dinner at a local restaurant, breakfast before OLLI courses, etc. In addition, the Social Committee assists other committees with setting up for and cleaning up after events. This committee meets three to four times a year.
Speakers’ Bureau
Present to community groups, in pairs or more, about OLLI’s history as well as your experience as an OLLI member.
